General Settings: How to Set Up Manual Discounts On The Point Of Sale Register #

Step 1: Understand the Discount Button #

Changes made in the settings will reflect under this discount cart button on the POS register.

Step 2: Log into Lifelong POS #

Navigate to https://login.lifelongpos.com/ in your browser.

Step 3: Access General Settings #

Click the Settings tab, then click General Settings.

Step 4: Locate the Discount Section #

  • Mac: Command + F, then type “Discounts”
  • Windows: CTRL + F, then type “Discounts”

Step 5: Configure Discount Lists #

Use comma-separated values for:

  • Custom %-discount list
  • Custom $-discount list

This controls the preset discounts available at the register.

Step 6: Add Discount Reasons (Optional) #

This field logs the reason on receipts and reports. Example: Military 10%, New Customer 5%, Employee 25%

Step 7: View POS Discount Reason Dropdown #

This is how the discount reasons appear for selection on the register.

Step 8: Create Labels for Discounts #

  • Custom %-discount labels
  • Custom $-discount labels

Example labels: Military, Employee

Step 9: Label-Linked Discounts in Action #

If Military is the first label and 5 is the first percentage, selecting “Military” applies 5% off.

Step 10: Control Discount Permissions #

Enable “Only show if employee has permission” to restrict usage to authorized staff. If disabled, all employees can use discounts.

Step 11: Manage Conflicting Discounts #

Enable “Remove cart rule discounts when manual is applied” to override automatic product discounts with the manual discount only.

Note: This option is not recommended unless necessary.

Step 12: Color Discounted Items in Cart #

Enable “Color discount-rule discounts items as green in cart” to visually highlight items that received a discount.
