Cleaning POS Terminals #
What You’ll Need #
Lint-free microfiber cloth
- Isopropyl alcohol (70%–90%) or a specialized electronics-safe cleaning wipe (e.g., Sani-Cloth)
- Cotton swabs (for card reader slot)
- Optional: Compressed air (for removing debris)
How to Clean the Touch Screen #
- Turn off or unplug the terminal.
- Lightly dampen a microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol. (Never spray directly on the screen.)
- Gently wipe the screen in a circular motion.
- Let it air dry before turning the terminal back on.
How to Clean the Card Reader #
- If available, use a cleaning card specifically designed for card readers.
- Follow the manufacturer’s directions for use.
- Insert and remove the card a few times to remove debris and residue.
What to Avoid #
- Alert: Don’t use bleach, ammonia, or abrasive cleaners.
- Don’t use paper towels (they scratch screens).
- Don’t pour or spray liquids directly on the device.
- Avoid getting moisture into any openings (USB, ports, etc.).
